Chew on This! Kicked Up Classics
The Boston Center for Adult Education had their annual Chew on This fundraiser last night, and my sister Laura and I had a fabulous time! The theme this year was Kicked Up Classics, so every bite featured was a chef's take on a classic dish.
We got right into it, starting with the spaghetti and meatballs. This was a great bit of tortellini filled with prosciutto, made by Michael Schlow of Alta Strada, Via Matta, and Tico. We followed that with the absolutely amazing meatloaf by Michael Scelfo of Alden & Harlow. I've been so into his food for a few years now, and was definitely not disappointed last night!
Kevin O'Donnell from The Salty Pig impressed us with his Caesar Salad, and then Mei Mei Street Kitchen and Food Truck burned our mouths so deliciously with their awesome Chili.
Jeremy Sewall of Lineage, Row 34, and Island Creek Oyster Bar made absolutely wonderful little Crab Cake bites. So good that I wish I had room for seconds, but instead it was time for Wings from Karen Akunowicz of Myers & Chang. Yum!
Throughout the night the drinks were flowing. From Peak Organic Brewing Co. to Downeast Cider, 99+ Cellars and Deep Eddy Vodka, there were plenty of options. And I can't forget to mention the amazing Mushroom Vol au Vents and mini Beef Wellingtons.
Chef Steve "Nookie" Postal from Commonwealth made excellent Mac 'N Cheese, and we followed that with Erwin Ramos' Ribs. Erwin is the chef at Olé, a restaurant I've been meaning to try for a while now, so I'm glad to at least have had a little bite of what he has to offer.
We were definitely a bit stuffed at this point, but had to make sure we tried everything. Thank goodness, because it would have been awful to miss these crazy good Chicken 'N Waffles from Tiffani Faison of Sweet Cheeks. We made a quick stop at the mashed potato bar, and then picked up some dessert: an ice cream float made with chocolate ice cream and Peak Organic Espresso Amber Ale. Such an awesome night!
