Cheese Tuesday at L'Espalier - Fondue

Sunday was my birthday, so to celebrate I was off to L'Espalier for Cheese Tuesday with some awesome friends. <3

I began with a Belgian Malinois Champagne cocktail, topping tasty Lindeman's Framboise Lambic beer with Champagne.

The first course was an amazing start: coddled egg with braised Berkshire pork belly, Fourme d'Ambert "sauce", and baby greens with roasted shallot-herb vinaigrette. The wine, 2014 Chateau Haut Pasquet, a blanc Bordeaux, was perfectly crisp. Thank goodness it was, because it cut right through the thick creaminess of the blue cheese sauce.

Salmon with scallop noodles (yes, really), and orange and lobster-lemongrass jus made up the second course. A rosé of Viognier and Syrah, 2014 Dominio IV "Inverse" from Oregon, paired delightfully well with the fish, but admittedly, I've been on a rosé kick the last few months!

The third course paired 2013 Easton Zinfandel from Amador County, California, with roasted beef tenderloin with leek, mushroom, and potato, all under a veil of Jasper Hill's Alpha Tolman cheese. If only words could express how good this pairing was!

Fondue was the theme for Cheese Tuesday this month, and this gorgeous fondue pot contained two different Swiss cheeses: Nufenen and Sennerei Nufenen, both from the Canton Graubunden in Switzerland. These tasty, melted Swiss cheeses were paired with 2012 Luc Massy "La Crosse" from Switzerland.

L'Espalier was kind enough to send us some palate cleansers at this point, and I ordered up a pot of the Anniversary blend of tea, my favorite.

We decided to split a dessert sampler, which was an excellent choice. First up was the apple tarte tatin with brown butter financier and buttermilk ice cream, followed by the lemon tart with sable breton and parsley parfait. We finished the dessert tasting with "Camp": milk chocolate ganache with marshmallow root, graham cracker, and smoked vanilla ice cream. It was amazing, just like a s'more.

L'Espalier was also kind enough to bring out a piece of birthday cake and some granitas and lychee treats as a closing bite. Cheese Tuesday was an excellent night again, as always! Looking forward to the next one!
