Wine Monday meets Cheese Tuesday

In order to avoid today's snowstorm, Cheese Tuesday was moved up a day to Monday. This meant it was combined with Wine Monday, which lead to more cheese for them and a delicious dessert on the menu as a treat for the Cheese Tuesday regulars. The theme this month was Fromage Français et Vins de Provence et du Sud.

I started out with a Jack Rose, a combination of apple jack brandy, grenadine, lemon juice, and sparkling wine. Bread was served up next, with a dollop each of tasty sea salt butter and rosemary honey butter.

The first course was one of my favorites of the evening; we had duck liver pâté with poached white asparagus, citrus crème fraiche, and brown butter paired with 2013 François Villard "Mairlant", a Saint Joseph Blanc from the Rhône.

The second course was a delicious oyster chowder with spring legumes and salmon croquettes. It was paired with 2016 Château Henri Bonnaud "Terre Promise", a Rosé from Côtes de Provence.

2011 Domaine de Terrebrune, a Bandol Rouge from Provence, stood up well to roasted beef ribeye with veal brain tortellini and parsnip.

The always-delicious cheese plate was up next, paired with NV Domaine Lafage Rivesaltes Ambré Hors d'Age from Roussillon. It was another awesome wine pick by Lauren Dadonna; the wine was wonderful to sip on as we sampled cheeses.

We began the cheese plate with Mothais Sur Feuille, a goat's milk cheese from the Loire Valley that was absolutely amazing. Brebis Pardou, a sheep's milk cheese from the Pyrénées, was a tasty follow up.

Camembert du Boulonnais, made of cow's milk, was up next, followed by another legendary cow's milk cheese, Comte le Fort from Franche-Comte.

We moved on to the stronger cheeses, like U Bel Fiuritu, a washed rind sheep's milk cheese from Corsica, and Bleu de Brebis, a creamy sheep's milk blue cheese.

At this point in the night, it was time for the "Chantreuse" to sing a song, so I pulled out my guitar and we all attempted to sing Lady Miss Epoisses, a Louis Risoli original to the tune of Lady Marmalade. Then it was on to our dessert: lemon poppyseed cake with lemon cream, grapefruit puffs, kumquat tuille, tapioca and honey chamomile ice cream. We ended the night with a pot of the Anniversary Blend tea, expertly blended by Cynthia Gold.
